I had a (one time just) holiday in Italy about 15 years ago & we got friendly with a local family as you do...the teenage kids were running about on steel Colnagos & Ciocc bikes for fun...When I stated these would be very desirable back in UK as quality racers, Columbus tubing/Campagnolo parts...
Interesting blurb...sound like total crap sales patter on his FB listing page as he went to the trouble of 1/2 way across Europe to purchase; why wouldn't you want to strip/flip the components including the frames to recoup your outlays?

The OP is only 15 miles from me but I have to say the asking price is "optimistic".....as big a fan as I am of Mercian,,,& the sum of the parts don't stack up.....
+1 @sjcprojects & @Guinessisgoodforyou....seller is having a laugh...recent online bikes for sale albeit on a different forum, close to where I live include a complete early 70's Mercian for less than £100 & a Columbus Steel Fondreist complete bike for £78....no one seems to want the decent...

No; the family member hadn't a clue as to values for anything merely seeing them as "old bikes"...e.g. £20 offered for a vintage lightweight, complete bike easily worth £300 + & there were many more examples of this...we reckoned thousands £ of bikes & components bought for a few hundred...
The estate of a VCC member was made available for sale & this chancer paid peanuts for part of a massive vintage collection & flipped everything by a factor of at least 10 through his online warehouse & fleabay....fortunately a few close friends were contacted by the family for assistance on...
