Ahhh, I'm a luddite and still stuck on a front mech! Having thought about it ..... will the Alivio cope with my 52-30 tooth range? If it will, how much do you want for it? It would get me back on my bike while I work out what I'm doing ..... and who knows, it may well stay there!

I'm upgrading my winter hack and was lucky enough to get hold of a Spa Audax I've recently swapped the triple crankset over (52-42-30) but the front derailleur won't swap as it's a different diameter. The more I look into it, the more I realise I haven't a clue what I'm looking for! What I need...

Sorry, but probably not; while I'm making the change I'd like to go for something a little further up the range. Thanks for looking though, really appreciate it.

I should have said - it's a road bike and currently on 6 speed but thinking of going up to 8/9 maybe. I'm using downtube friction levers so not too pernickity .... will MTB parts work? Also working on a limited budget ..... those XTR bits are indeed lovely but a bit out of range :(

I am swapping my winter hack to a new frame and have a Shimano triple front ring 52-42-30. Unfortunately the downtube on the new frame is larger (31.8mm) so I need to replace the front mech. While I'm at it, I thought it might be worth upgrading from the budget Shimano mech I have been using...

I was obviously lucky! They are old Simplex ones and bolted straight on. I ended up also swapping my bars over so I could use the shorter Ahead stem I already had lurking in a box and the set up is great.

First chance for a proper ride today and what a lovely bike! Not keen on the SRAM double tap thingies but I'll be swapping them out anyway. I could do with a shorter stem (I think) but will start by fitting downtube shifters and traditional brakes/hoods first as this will bring my hand position...

That's the one! It seems crazy but thanks to not being suckered by fashion I've got myself a great buy 🙂

Am now the happy owner of a Spa Audax! Thanks for the photo pigman, it was great to have confirnation that downtube shifters would work before making the trip. Apart from adjusting the riding position I'll ride it over the next few months then 'make it mine' over the summer.
