Recommend me a cordless drill? Ryobi?

Chucks normally have a left hand threaded screw in the middle. Once that's out you clamp a biggish allen key in the jaws and use that as a lever to unscrew the chuck (right hand thread). Sometimes a clout to the end of the allen key is enough to release it, sometimes you need to find a way of...

You and your bikes' combined age?

83 here. How can a 1982 bike possibly be 35 years old? Also, how can a 1968 man possibly be 48 years old?

    Dawes Galaxy - Refurb Complete.

I found that the Clarks CP100 brake pads you get in Halfords both look the part and worked well on my Galaxy. Before that I had a set of Velo Orange salmon pads, which were awful.

Rearwheel gear/fixed - how to change from gear to fixed?

I got this wheel as part of a set on here last year, is it quite an unusual arrangement then?

Basic (but Simplex) rear mech incompetence

    Newbie with a question

Re: For a triple you should really fit a longer BB axle and you might have to change the front derailleur too, and possibly the rear derailleur. It would be cheaper and easier to fit a 14-28 sprocket on the back, you shouldn't need to change anything else. Use Sheldon Brown's Gearing...

    Rechargeable rear bike light??

I have a Smart Lunar R2 and find it ideal. Mine is the old 2xAAA version and the batteries last for ages, I think it might still be on the original set. It is very visible (also bright, but bright doesn't always mean visible) and lightweight. It also comes with a seat stay mount so it doesn't...

    tips

My son tells me that hipsters have moved on from "fixies" to road bikes, that might account for the inflated prices.

    Is this cracked?

Can you take the BB out and see if you can feel it on the inside?

    Carlton Corsair

Forgive me Retrobike, for I have sinned. A few weeks ago a set of wheels with a flip-flop rear came up on here for a favourable price, so I decided to make this into a fixed gear bike. The bike had already been pretty much ruined, and didn't have as many original parts as I thought, so I don't...
