Hi all
I got my old Attitude Comp out a couple of months ago and had forgotten how fab a bike it was/is. After very good advice from on here I have replaced all cables and other consumables, fitted a new set of bars and stem (Thomson Elite), and some exotic carbon forks. Done a few miles too...
I'm doing the coast to coast ride from Whitehaven to Sunderland on the old girl this weekend so that ought to work as a decent shakedown ride. My carbon forks and CK headset arrived today and I won't get chance to fit them pre ride sadly. I need to get the forks reamed to fit the crown race and...
Needless to say now I have my eXotics arriving tomorrow I have found some SIDs with a 215mm steerer so they are on their way too. Probably need a second frame now. Is this how the compulsive thing starts?
Update on progress and thanks to sage advice on here.
I have replaced all cables, thoroughly degreased and lubed everything and lordy lordy what a difference. I have also been ebay surfing and generally searching for some decent replacement suspension forks. I very much fancy some SIDs but am...
I've not bought or swapped suspension forks before. Other than the steerer being a standard 1 1/8th a headset type what are the critical measurements I need to get right for them to fit?
Thank the Lord for that!! I have some proper Shimano cable cutters so if its just a case of pull out the actual cables and replace the outers and cables then no problem at all. What do you guys use for lube. I use GT85 for no other reason than I always have.

I had a play on google/ebay and now realise its a whole world of bike porn. I could spend so much money so easily. Lots of lovely vintage XTR. NOS hubs - oh yes, chain set? certainly sir.....
I think the very wise words to sort what I have and then see how I feel are what i need to do...
Thanks for the advice guys, all very much appreciated and food for thought.
If I can get it shifting sweetly as an 8 speed then that would be great. Much as I like buying toys I don't want to spoil the whole retro thing completely. The Bontrager stem/bars weren't great so the Thomson Elite...
Thanks, I think it looks pretty nice. It cost me a chuffing fortune when I bought it new ar Evans in Wandsworth. It was a getting divorced present from me to me and I don't regret the divorce or the buying the bike.
I don't want to spoil my Klein, more get it working perfectly. I am struggling...
Hi all
Not been on here before but was trying to learn more about maybe gently upgrading my lovely old MTB. Its a Klein Attitude Comp from 1997 in vibrant orange. Its got a mix of XT and LX bits on it (from new) and I recently put a Thomson Elite stem & titanium bars on it to match the OE...
