    1991 Kona Fire Mountain

Replacement rear mech on. I know it’s way better than this bike would ever have had, but I did it for two very good reasons: 1. Deore DX is the coolest looking mtb groupset ever. 2. School bikeshed rules; upgrading your rear mech enhanced the cool factor of your bike by 1000%

Minor tinkering on a long Friday work lunch. HG90 cassette here and installed; unfortunately missing its red sticker but that makes no difference to me. And it looks smashing on the restored exage hub with its shiny new like for like qr 😀

    1991 Kona Fire Mountain

The bad bits: both wheels need new spokes; I have already had the rear done. The chain and cassette were very very oily with many years of hardened grime. The headset oddly had a warped crown race, so that was toasted. The front mech had some deep rust which was beyond the capability of autosol...

    1991 Kona Fire Mountain

The year is 1991, and I wanted the zolotone Marin Palisades so badly, and my brother @ClassicDodo lusted after a Kona Fire Mountain. We ended up the following year getting respectively a 1992 Marin Muirwoods and a 1992 Kona Fire Mountain, but we both still looked back on the bikes that we wanted...

Here is my 1997 Voodood Erzulie. Wanted one since 1997 when I saw one hanging on the wall of JC Cooks Cycles in Grimsby!

    Marin Pine Mountain Browning

That is an awesome bike; always loved the look of it with the browning fork in the catalogue all those years ago

    '91 Team Marin restoration (slow)

I am digging it out from the garage now the weather is less horrific and will get some riding in I think; had a few short rides on it and it’s lovely and fast 👍

    '91 Team Marin restoration (slow)

I had a go once and it was an unmitigated failure….unless you have good weather and somewhere well ventilated (and a good level of skill that I did not possess), I would say go to the pros at Argos; the finish they did is fantastic 👍
