    Sid Mottram Build

Hello That's interesting, these things are always difficult to get to the bottom of with such little info but I must admit I'd discounted it being a Mercian frame from that period as I understood it would have 5 digits rather than 4 in the frame number?

    Making plans for Nigel

I like the idea of differing colour cable outers, never thought of that before but I think it would be more effective with Shimano rather than Campagnolo brifters and I had the pale blue to hand for this one, I might end up doing that on another build though.

Not at this stage but you never know, most builds are in flux in my bike shed anyway.

    Making plans for Nigel

Thanks for all the suggestions but in the end my inner magpie won and I went with the shiny Campy Veloce group because I still think that 600 kit just looks drab in comparison. With a bike of this vintage I don't really think too much black and grey looks right, there's too much black and grey...

    Retrolectric bike

Another little update, the Schwable Comp CX tyres in 700x30 that I had on the bike are great for road use with the occasional bit of soft off road, but my route to work takes in a lot of forestry commission routes that have recently been paved with some very sharp stone and gravel. So after one...

    Making plans for Nigel

I couldn't resist really and as you've probably guessed dear reader this post is about a Nigel Dean Triathlon and what I plan to do with it. I picked this little gem up from FB market place a little while back and I really really don't need any more bikes, but I do like Nigel's frames and am...

    1984 Claud Butler Majestic

I've already got an identical one I've done nothing with for several years so can't really justify taking on another just to sit next to its twin.

    Retrolectric bike

As a little update I've covered a good few miles on the electric 27 and so far so good. The only issue has been a rear wheel puncture (it would be the bloody rear wouldn't it), so I've invested in a couple of slime tubes in the hope that they protect on my route through the woods to work. The...

    Anyone into classic cars

That's a car I bought as an afterthought thinking I wouldn't like it and absolutely loved it. Mine wasn't a special but it was one of the first few hundred in two tone metallic blue and silver and unbeknown to me when I bought it had a rare interior in it. I had it when much younger, bought it...

    Anyone into classic cars

I'm generally not a fan of American cars but there's a few I do like and I do love a Corvette. I very nearly bought a black L88 many years ago although a little later than yours. I used to buy and repair the odd bit of salvage many years ago and there was one in our local salvage yard which...

No I'm pretty certain they're a little bent, I've got another pair to go in it although when I finally get round to painting it I've got a nice set of sloping crown chrome ones with a short head tube that would go very nicely in this frame, so as its not going to be in any way period correct it...

BSA Tour de France Mk2 Resurrection

As a little update to this thread, I've finally done something with the later BSA TDF I have (that's on page 3). I'm not sure its really in keeping with what I do with most of my bikes but it does get a lot of admiring glances from chaps of a certain age, I'm also sure I hear the phrase "Just...

    Carlton Pro Am 12

Its amazing how time flies. Work, stuff at home, eloping to Las Vegas to get married, cars, other hobbies and just life in general have meant I've not done much bike fettling for a while, I've still managed to ride a few of my bikes but just not got greasy handed for a while. Well I was home...

    Anyone into classic cars

Mid-80's to early 90's, its a lot wider than that, basically anything with a sunroof. I've seen plenty of e3's and e9's needing the a pillars dealt with over the years. I replaced both A pillar bottoms on my 1980 e12 in the time I had it and on my 03 and 04 e66 and e64, the rust proofing is...

Oops, it followed me home honest it did. Late 80's Ken James

Yes I saw that one. Not really my cup of tea though as I'm not a fan of canti brakes, it does look a bit mountain bike to me
