Hi, a friend of mine recently picked up a 90s Peugeot Virenque. It appears to be 6 speed cassette with a triple crank
It has a Tourney RdTY20 rear and shimano rx100 front mech.
We were just wondering what components we could get to replace those if they are not working. It looks like a direct...
Good enough to ride!
The paint cured beautifully and after a week it is still on my little fingernail so I'm guessing it's pretty durable!
I followed the Park tools order for reassembling the bike with the exception of the wheels which were already assembled.
First i reassembled the headset...
Spray painting
Having chickened out of finally painting the frame for a few weeks i finally bit the bullet. After trying several times to get Halfords to mix me some paint i ordered some from Riolett custom Aerosols. They sell 2k paint in 400ml cans that includes a hardener so more durable...
Interesting point. I never thought about the stickers being wrong as they just came with the bike. Looking at the catalogue it is an Ultralight frame and i can't see any ribbing on the downtube. There was some very fine ribbing on the head tube and bottom bracket tube so those might have been...
If you are doing a full re-lace then you have a bit more freedom with the spokes. So long as you get the right length (front, rear drive side, non-drive side) and some decent brass nipples you'll be fine.
I've had a quick look and the best info i can find is from the Marin1994 catalogue, link below. This says that they were UPC 15g spokes. This makes me think that they were straight spokes not butted. I tried and struggled to find 15/17g DB spokes in the UK as most are now 14/16g that match up...
Strip and prime
After attempting to sand off some of the frame rust and then mask off and prime specific areas i decided that it was never going to yield the finish i was after. So i took the plunge and decided to strip the frame and repaint it.
This was the hardest thing I've done so far...
Re:
Ha! You should hang the rider number upside down!
Nice bike btw. Yeah in the end i decided that the rust was going to bother me so decided to strip it and repaint (update soon).
Sorry to hear about your injury, hope it sorts itself soon.
Hi,
I am restoring a 1995 Team Marin and i an trying to source the most accurate paint color to respray it.i was wondering if anyone else has had any luck as i seem to be struggling. The colour is a kind of champagne gold with a satin finish.
I saw a post recommending a Lexus IS200 paint match...
Unexpected update
I wasn't expecting to get much done today but got a sudden burst of energy at 7.30pm. After a lot of stressing over the paint match of the bar ends and bottle cage i have decided to go off-original. I thought it would be easier to match the baby blue from the Marin down tube...
