    New project - 1986 BSA/Raleigh racer

I built up a road bike in the late 80s with a Stronglight chainset with 52/36 chainrings. First time I dropped onto the little ring I thought I had broken the chain. such a big drop. It wasn't so long before that, I had a Viking that had 52/48. Could hardly notice gear changes on that. The...

    Alecs small wheeled bikes

Before I got the Raliegh Stowaway. I wanted a small wheeled bike that I coukd modify. But wasnt too keen on dealing with the problems that old Ralieghs give, with non standard sizes and threads of parts. So I went upto the bike shop in town that recycles old bikes. They actually had some...

My 'new' old 'gas-pipe' Raleigh Pursuit

I think the rims are just regular 700c. Any narrowish tyre for that size will fit. I think some are marked as 28". But thats to do with other sizes of tyres and rims that are in the 700 series. Sheldon Brown has an article about rim sizes. I think its also where 29" mtb wheels come from...

Improving brakes on a very, very old Clubman

Ive got loads of 730s Ive stripped from old bikes. as well as other sizes such as 810, 890, 1000, 500, 605s. I have 500s on my Raleigh Flyer. Its a 80s racer, has the smoother looking calipers. But the weimman pads are terrible. I ride with the brakes adjusted up. But not much happens...
