A few years ago I posted this image prior to building it up into a singlespeed ride. Since then I've gone geared with it - 1x9. I rode this frame to a Southwest series overall win back in the 90's, and have been loathed to sell it for sentimental reasons. But I feel the time may (subject to...
I used an angle grinder to remove my non-drive side crank arm a few weeks ago. It works, but a word of warning, the heat does travel quite quickly along the crank arm. Obviously you'll be wearing gloves like I was (cough  !), just be careful.
....the saga continues.
So I posted last night that I liked to look of the Surly Singleater, it can tension up or down. A link to the Surly Website showed the fitting instructions where I noted you need an 18mm cone spanner to assist in fitting it (mental note taken).
This morning I'm...
I specifically chose the Gusset Double Six SS conversion because it has a double width rear sprocket, I heard tales of people having 'narrow' ones digging into the freehub body because of the high load focused in the narrow contact band.
I've seen the Surly Singleater rear tensioner which...
Update on the DBR Axis TT SS conversion....
That tensioner has got to go I reckon. To eliminate the SRAM 'Snap Lock' link I took that out and tried to reduce the chain length to its absolute minimum at the same time (maximising the wrap around) and.....
........jump, jump, jump :x .
In...
Ok, so it's not the chain line. The tensioner alignment did look a smidge out when I checked it. It's dead straight now, but still it jumps.
I'm suspicious about the SRAM 'snap lock' joining link as when I turn it backwards it makes 'click' when it goes through the jockey wheel. However when...
Job done.... well nearly, but we have some hitches.
OK, I posted on this thread a week or so ago about converting my DBR Axis TT to a single speed, and now I've finished it. Well it looks complete but I have a glitch to solve I think. I only jumped on it quickly tonight to see what it felt like...
Ooo! Good thread.
I think I've just decided that I'll convert my Axis TT to a SS. I stripped it last week and was considering selling the frame. But I can hardly bear to get rid of it.
A SS conversion seems to tick many of the problem boxes I had.
I've got a pair of Quadra 21R forks...
....that when you strip the threads out of a pedal arm using the crank extractor, an angle grinder works well as a remidy. Though the crank arm gets VERY HOT... ahhh sh*t!
That must make you Dennis Fitch then?
I'm not so far from you, I'm in Torrington. I used to race XC in mid 90's. I don't think we've met but I remember reading your race reports in the NDJ.
I used to race privately and a bit for ProBike in Braunton before.... it closed (and all the rest of...
Well, perhaps its debatable whether it was a proper MTB, but it felt like one to me at the time - 1988(?) Peugeot Alpina, Graphite Grey, 15spd Friction shift.
If that doesn't quite cut the mustard then its my 1991 Black with Red writing Specialised Stumpjumper. I really wanted the grey Comp...
Hello Everybody,
This is my first post. I found this website a few days ago after trolling the net trying to decide what to do with my 1995 Diamond Back Axis TT. I feel like I might be starting a renaissance in mountain biking and wanted to either breath life back into my Axis or perhaps just...
