    How old is this Stem?

Hi, and thanks for replying. I did notice the 03-01, but I wasn't 100% sure if that was a date, or some other code

    How old is this Stem?

Hi, and happy new year :xmas-cool: I purchased my '93 Indian Fire Trail in 2016, and I have finally found the time to replace the stem. The bike was fitted with the following "Kalloy" stem: I feel this stem is 15-20 years old ... am I right? I found a similar one on Amazon...

    Stuck Stem Wedge

Thread-resurrection time  Update: I blocked the bottom of the steerer tube with some plasticene, sprayed the wedge with liberal amounts of Plusgas, and left it to soak overnight. I then inverted the bike, blocked the top of the steerer tube, sprayed some more Plusgas, screwed the stem...

    23-year-old Bike Tyres

Re: Re: Yes, I think that's a good idea. I might buy a second set of retro wheels (without tyres) and fit new rubber onto those. :-)

Hi I purchased my '93 Indian Fire Trail with original tyres .... I thought they looked a little cracked, and then I looked at them closely! Would you ride on them?!

    Stuck Stem Wedge

Sounds like a great idea ... I'll locate a metal bar and get stuck in!

    Stuck Stem Wedge

Re: Sorry for not being clearer ... I did leave the stem bolt in, and hit that with a rubber-ended hammer. It didn't shift the little s.o.d, and so I will get myself a larger hammer. Thanks for everyone's contributions.

    Stuck Stem Wedge

Re: Thanks for all of your replies. The wedge is the only stuck component. I tried to whack it with a soft-headed hammer this afternoon ..... no joy! I may need to get a larger hammer, but I don't want to damage anything . I re-fitted the stem and handlebars .... and I could ride the...

    Stuck Stem Wedge

Hi I am rebuilding a 1993 Marin Indian Fire Trail. The rebuild appears to be straightforward .... apart from the quill stem wedge, which is stuck in place. It looks slightly rusty, and I have tried penetrating oil, knocking the wedge from underneath (with the bike inverted) ... no joy. If I...
