So I've fitted a Toupe on this since.... I'm also looking at shedding a bit more weight and updating my seat post to a newer Bontrager Race Lite seat post, and changing to a straight rather than a set back seat post also. I'm still looking for a nice set of Dura Ace 7800 cranks and 7800 pedals also.
Yeah, I could go a bit lighter as those wheels are pretty bomb proof but its more than light enough. I was holding my own the other day with a guy that was on a tempo of 22mph (38km/hr) for about 6miles (10km). Its a pretty quick bike now. It would be even quicker if I wasn't on it.
My brother...
Looking for a needle in a haystack is fun... I'm looking for a set of PD-7810 pedals for my bike... that aren't beat to hell and scratched up. I've seen a couple, but their definition of VGC is substantially different to mine.
These type... or PD-7800 in a pinch if in very good condition.
Well after putting it on the scales today its 8.8kg. Something less than 9kg is about the same as the best aluminum road bikes of 2007 such as a CAAD8. That's with the hefty DI2 derailleurs and Bontrager Select wheels.
Its from a great time in history. You're right, those wheels aren't spoked for Clydesdale class riders but they're surprisingly decent if you're capable of riding them. The 7800 groupset is something special. My brother works in a bike shop so I get some deals here and there they had fresh 7800...
On my bike?
Everything is original vintage spec except the 6770 shifters and derailleurs but then I did that for my own reasons too. I wanted to do a retro bike with a Dura Ace 7800 groupset with a twist while staying true to the intent of a racing bike. But honestly do what you want. It's your...
Don't even bother, most frame pumps won't get you enough air pressure to do anything other than limp home. Get a couple of C02 cartridges and be done with it.
Probably, this bike is a bit retro before current times. The seat is far too round, and people have since gotten used to the fact that you can ride a road bike without a set back seat post. It's a pretty trick ride by now but its still a work in progress.
A set of more modern clinchers would go...
So I thought that I might introduce myself. Long story short, I've been riding bikes for a fair while now to develop an interest in something a bit different. I have a love/hate relationship with modern bikes and decided a long time ago that a lot of people end up spending too much money on...
Re: Re:
I ended up on the same goose chase as you. I ended up buying a Trek 1500 SLR in good condition. These came with an Ultegra 6600 groupset but I've been slowly upgrading it to a 7800 groupset with 6770 DI2 derailleurs.
Given my brother is a full time bike mechanic I've been able to find...
