Massive but tastefully specced Caygill tour /rando Shrewsbury

That is indeed a well-specced machine and a great detailed listing. Very interesting that he is 5ft 11ins and says the bike fits him! The size of the head tube spoils the look somewhat for me though.

If it was nearer I'd definitely have a look and it has given me some ideas for a new frame that s on its way to me later this week.
I am an inch taller and think I would struggle lol

Hahaha I’m 6’4” so the size is great. Was riding like a dream on my way home last night but I’ve just been fiddling around with it to adjust the seat to my height and the clamp sheared 😭😭😭

Don’t know if anyone has any advice on whether this is fixable?

Oh no! Its a trip to your local framebuilder...fixable in theory but the economics of that might be challenging. Its a bit sus to me that is....wondering if there was a crack there when it was handed on to you? I've seen those bend and distort but not snap like that.

I had a feeling it’s going be expensive 🥲 I imagine it must have had some existing weakness otherwise I don’t see how the whole thing could’ve come off like that. Don’t suppose you can recommend any good frame builders in the South?

Do you think I could get around it using a wedge/quill seat post or would that be a bad idea?
