Would I have to buy some dust caps or should I just leave it open(the crank threads)

Perhaps self extracting is the way to go.

For the above you'd want dust caps for sure.

Are you looking for some for a square taper BB or octalink/Isis?

BETD are still doing Middleburn self extractors in a variety of colours. Not cheap, but look great and (in my experience) decent quality.
