Partial M900 XTR group - unusual rear hub

Too much money for what’s there and the condition, however unusual to see a long cage rear mech, and I’ve never seen a rear hub adapted to take a disc before.

You’re right, that rear hub adapter is unusual! It looks machined like it’s an off the shelf type item a bit like the freehub to fixed adapters but then the hub body must have needed some machining on the nds? Wonder if someone made it themselves?

It may have screwed into the body where the plastic seal is. Who knows, buy it and find out for us?
I'd be surprised if that thread was strong enough though.

It looks to me as if it would be attached to the axle, and merely covers the non drive side of the hub shell - so it could well be an intact hub beneath it, give or take how it interfaces with the standard bits.

The seller doesn’t comment on the non standard element, so perhaps doesn’t know.

The axle doesn't rotate....

My other though was they threaded or just screwed it on over cutting a thread in the bearing our bulge, since it mostly flat.

Hope did this to the Campagnolo tandem hubs they used with their first mechanical brake, reverse threaded non-drive flange and a spider screwed on for the rotor.

So just dont roll backwards down a slope with brakes on!

As for the rear mech, its probably the cage from an xt m735.. That mod was done by a few bespoke firms and i believe Trek for their early rear suspension bikes.....im assuming as the travel was too much for the short cage. Easy to tell....xtr alluminium/ xt steel.

Thought that was only on 910.....and part of the reason for it....when they realised you couldn't run decent sized tooth cassettes on that short mech...

But then xtr was only copying suntours xc pro homework! (Lights touch paper and quietly walks away)........
