Eroica Britannia 2022

It's cancelled. They sniffed money that wasn't there. It went wrong when Maserati started sponsoring it. Loved the first ones in Bakewell.

Oh well! Yes I was on the fence mostly due to price. Interested to get your opinion on how the feel/marketing of the event changed. Were they just trying to get some S-Works/Rapha crowd cash and misjudged the overlap of the different parts of the cycling community?

I reckon they were trying to copy the Goodwood classic car format. Millionaires with vintage concours bikes and then build it up internationally so that some guy from Japan would make the effort to bring Coppi's original bike to the show. The modest budgets of the "proper " retrobikers on here made it exclusive. The millionaires never came and we stopped going so it failed.

The original Bakewell showground venue was great in good weather but floods heavily during polonged rain which ruins it, so that was always a risk, and i'll bet the rents were high, but it provide a lovely town setting, especially for the non-cycling partners. So, while i have some sympathy in moving from Bakewell, the move to a field in the middle of nowhere, meant that they had a captive audience for the provision of food and refreshments, which i'd bet weren't priced competitively, so again those without deep pockets voted with their feet. And the "Goodwood" brigade will want to stop in a peak district inn rather than a tent blowing around in an empty field.

Agreed on the eBay one - even for old Ergos and other stuff specifically not allowed.
But the Italian original continues.

There was going to be a bike jumble at the Eroica Britannia according to the Campy Oldy website. A pitch of 5m x 3m in the garage/pits would've set you back £200 plus VAT. A bit different from the usual £10 a pitch at your regular cycle jumbles.

It has always been an over priced bike ride imho . I charged £10 for a 400k audax which included most of a riders food for the event .

I used to live not far from Bakewell so i could ride there, down the Monsal trail.. it was a god awful event..

The bikes always played second fiddle to the middle-class bicycle cosplay.. this kind of twatery
