1982 Raleigh Record

Hi,

Recently acquired a Raleigh road bike and I’m struggling to identify it as it has no stickers other than Ti Union Jack sticker on the seat tube and what is probably a cycle shop sticker on the down tube.

Here’s what I know:

12 speed with Campagnolo shifters and front and rear derailleurs. 27 x 1 1/4 Maillard wheels, Raleigh branded cranks, Weinmann 610 centre pull brakes.

I’m hoping to restore it to a rideable condition, and want to see what is original and what’s not.

Thanks for your help!

Kev

Re:

Any chance of a picture of the complete bike? it helps if you can see frame geometry etc. It looks like it may be from the Carlton factory from the fork crown and looks like the forks have a lamp bracket from the limited vista of the photos .The lack of braze on`s for even the downtube shifters suggests its early to mid 70`s . The Ti sticker isnt quite centred or lacquered over so it looks like its stuck on after a respray ?.

Re:

A respray is likely as the paintwork looks too good. Just found the serial number, NG2027710

Re:

So, a lot is pointing at the Clubman 12 (Campag gear, 27x1 1/4 wheels) and the serial number puts it as a 1982 model.

There’s a couple of confusing bits though. It’s got Weinmann brake levers with suicide levers which don’t feature on any photos I can see, and the fork has a lamp boss on the right leg, again which I can’t see anywhere.

Any thoughts?

Re:

There doesn`t appear to be any brazed on bottle cage mounts on the downtube which the clubman of 82 had , also the gear cables would have been routed under the BB and not needed that chrome bolt on cable guide. I still think its older than 82 , could it be 1972 with upgraded parts?

Re:

The serial number is where I’d expect it (top of seat tube) and matches with a Nottingham bike from 1982. But I did notice the lack of any braze ons

Re:

Sorry to keep bumping this one, but it’s got me stumped!

Any thoughts on how it can have what seems a legit serial number, but I can’t find a frame that matches? Any links to the lower end Raleigh bikes from 1982? All the google links take me to the lightweight frames.

Is there an easy way to tell if it’s a Reynolds frame or cheaper steel?

Re:

I found it! It’s a 1982 Raleigh Record. From what I can tell, they were fairly cheap frames, but for some reason fitted with Campagnolo 980 running gear, which is a real result as it looks like most of the components are genuine.

Anyone found any more information on them? There’s very little on google other than a few examples for sale, but at least now I can put a name to it!

Looks like I have the same bike! It's taken me ages to identify it. Any idea what the frame Material spec is? The frame sticker is missing and id like to try and find one. 20220213_172105.webp
