Now. Check out the mounts on forks. Apparently been like rage since fitting. This bike was used well until about nine years ago. Bent rm hanger (sorted) and rear mech sheared. (Scrapped) bb is shot as is front hub and rim.

question. Would you trust the forks fo road use as is or even after mounts refitted. I’m doing a neighbour a favour on this one as she wants to ride it. Not thrashed by her, but previous owner. I’ll rebuild with spares and a new bb and pads cables etc but forks are troubling me.

thanks THM

Aside from the mounts facing the 'wrong' way in terms of pace forks, what's troubling you about them? I prefer them rear facing myself but they are fine that way, easier cable routing.

If it's an issue for you, you can remove and refit the other way, they slot over the drop out with a bit of technique, but be careful not to spread them too wide as they can crack. I'd loosen the bolts a bit but leave them in so you can't open them up too wide and break them.

Yes the forks. Does it make any difference to stresses? Will they be ok to continue use as is? Light road use.

They will be fine as they are. There was probably science behind them facing the other way but you could buy pace braces with a front facing canti mount rather than the rear rocker on older forks, so if pace sold them they couldn't have been worried about extra stress.

Thanks that’s useful to know. Ok just being extra sure as this isn’t mine and I’d always associated them with the rear mounted brake thing.

so is the general consensus is fine. New front wheel and onward.

If you are concerned which way the brakes face , why not turn them around? Not that either Makes any difference
