1996 Marin Team Titanium - Resto-mod

ectoplasmosis

Old School Hero
Having just got hold of a 1996 Marin Team Titanium frame, all I can think about is brutally defiling it with a welder.

The frame is straight, dent-and-crack-free, and the perfect size. But it has long-since lost its decals, and been sprayed yellow then sanded back at some point in its life.

Given this, and the cute price paid, I have zero qualms about getting a disc tab welded on and building it up as a sub-9Kg/20lb rigid MTB 'soft-roader' for day trips and chucking around Epping.

CK hubs, Pace RC31, Hope Mono Minis...

Re:

As if by magic...

Disc tab done by Patrick at Limit Fabrication. Custom design to fit into the rear triangle, without the need for a brace, and a Hope 'Number 5' caliper designed for a 140mm rotor to fit a 160mm.

Re: 1996 Marin Team Titanium - Restomod Disc Conversion

Wow ... gorgeous  A very classic look, despite the modern parts. It looks really great ;)

PS. It is a pity that no one in Poland wants to weld the titanium frame. I'd make use of Batavus ...

Thanks! I’m glad that the frame came bare, made me feel much better about peeling off the stickers from the RC31’s.

Is your Batavus cracked or do you want to modify it? You could always post it to Limit Fab.

The frame is like new. I would like to remove the brake bosses. And weld the mount of the disc brakes. Thanks for the contact, I'll write to them soon.

Re: Re:

This is so nice dude, congrats!

I'm just ordering some coloured jewels from Matias for mine too. As soon as I get the Heihei finished I'll see you up Epping for a retro-ti-party...

Thanks!

Stridsland’s really doing it for the retro MTB conversion scene.

Would be swell to ride in Epping with you! Will keep an eye on your Hei Hei build.
