This is a 93 or earlier frame that has been repainted white. The picture below of Steve Jones’ near-mint Cinder Cone shows the 94-pattern dropouts and original 94 decal set. Your frame has the triangular shape in the dropout that is characteristic of 91-93 Kona frames. The 93 Kilauea was red and silver.

Looks like the first year they did this model frame. It was a purple colour if I recall originally.

Shared the same frameset as the Explosif too I think - you can see the ovalisation of the downtube at the top and bottom. Pretty sure this is a Kilauea.

Is it original paint?

Ill have this off you. And the P2s.

Also going by the paint in the bottom bracket shell, headtube and cablestops etc i'd say it's been painted and not built since.

I agree it does look as though it is a Kilauea, but I can’t tell for sure from these photos. Evidence in its favour is that it does look like a Tange Prestige Concept bulge-butted seat tube (in contrast to the one on the Cinder Cone which actually narrows/ovalises as it meets the bb shell). If the top and down tubes have an oval cross-section, tapering from 34/30 at the front to 30/27 at the back, then those are Concept tubes, as used on the Explosif from 1990 to 92 and the Kilauea from 1993 to 95.

I own a repainted Kilauea myself, and it was only by reference to the tubeset, the dropout type and the serial number that I was able to prove to myself first that it actually was a Kilauea and secondly that it was a 94 (with 97 decals!)

This shows what an original 93 Kilauea looks like (natty tyre choice)
