...and than I do not mean a new fresh grease injection

I would like to open one. Maybe replace the bearings (if possible) and do some adjusting.

1) What do I find inside? Cartridge bearing or loose balls?

2) If cartridge bearing: Are these special Grease Guard odballs or can the be acquired at every corner of the street?

3) How do I remove the plastic cover? Lifting, unscrewing?

Let me know :) Thank you.

I've never had to open mine, but here's the Bikepro page that has a pretty detailed description:

So, two different cartridge bearings. The outer dust cap is a snap fit ("outrageously tight") and a 4mm allen key gets you in. I don't know whether or not the bearings are standard sizes (I couldn't find a "Nachi 968Z" when I Googled), but if you can get a non-greaseguard (2RS) version of the larger bearing you can always prise off one of the seals.
