I've ummed and ahhed over selling these for a while now. Time to face the fact that I have 2 nearly immaculate sets of 1st generation Crossmaxes and although the colour scheme of these matches the bike better, they're lower down the pecking order than they deserve to be.
Sold as a pair since they're both red Hope hubs of matching models - Ti-Glide and Fatso (or is it Suspension, can't remember what the difference was) but these aren't actually a matching wheelset:
The front is excellent - lovely smooth bearings, with the red finish nice and rich. 32-spoke laced to a Mavic X517. Weight is 765g which includes the rim tape. Running true and with minimal wear to the braking surfaces considering their age.
The rear isn't quite as good although it is also running true and with the same minimal rim wear. Again, there's no play in the bearings but you can detect a light 'rumble' on spinning the wheels indicating that the hub could use a regrease. The red finish has lightly faded on the rear unlike the front, although the photos I've taken don't really show the fading - I can take some in the daylight if required, it hasn't gone pink though. The hub has been laced to a different rim at some point (some marks to the red finish where the spokes have been fitted in a different pattern) and now it is laced to a 32-hole Mavic X238 rim. At least one of the spokes has a small kink in it, and the tension of quite a few of the spokes is slack. On the plus side, the rear has been converted with the 5-bolt Hope spider, though I never used it with a disc so I used red bolts to blank the holes, which I'll include. The freehub has a very strong 'Hope clickety-click' - I assume it's Ti but I don't know how to tell for sure? Even including the spider, bolts and rim tape the weight is 1052g.
