I Scored a Klein Attitude on Craigslist $100 became $250

A CL ad around midnight posted a "Klein Bicycle".

This is what I saw...

Unbelievably selling for $100 USD or best offer.

So I offer $150 cash and I can pick up the next day. Morning comes along, I call the guy several times and finally get through. He said someone offered him an extra $100 for a total of $200 so I decided to go at it for $250. He finally had so many calls and offers that he got tired of answering the phone and told me it's mine....naturally I picked it up ASAP.

From original owner. Sitting in a barn for 5 years. No cracks on the usual places, no major chips. Some fade on the front. Hardly any chain slap on stays. Bearings on headset and bottom bracket are fine. Original components. Changed out the seat, rode it to the store and looks solid. Now it's time for a proper restoration...I have not even cleaned it.

lucky bar steward god damn it i wish i was on the other side of the pond some times thats like £125 thats just insultingly cheap    i really want any more come up let me know il pay the postage buddy :D :D

Same guy was selling a Guerciotti Road bike for $100 or best offer. I think he let that one go for $150 or $200 USD. I could have purchased that one also, but I already have a Pinarello road bike....plus I think someone else wanted the road bike big time so he let another guy have it. He said it was one of the last ones made (late 80's) and loaded. He said he paid a decent sum for the Klein, but considerably more for the Guerciotti. This is the picture of it....

Censored.

Great find. Very good bike, really lovely.

I hope the guy won't find out what he did ;-)

But yeah, how lucky can you get? I guess this makes a good start for 2008 eh? I'd like to see how it ends up when built...

He figured out after all the calls that he was selling too cheap. He even said so. I told him I would fix it up, ride it and give it a good home. His reply was that at it was better than it sitting in the barn and didn't expect it would get $100. Nice guy, in his mid to late 40's I would say.

I did call early in the morning and about 20 times in the next 3 hours. It took a while to get a hold of him since he had his phone off in a meeting. I just managed to catch him as he got out of the meeting. Part luck, part persistence. I didn't really sleep well the night before, felt kinda sick from too much anticipation as you would imagine. I'm sure that if I didn't get the bike, I'd be feeling like shit. Just imagine, I could have picked it up for $100 if the timing was right. I saw it as soon as it popped on CL.
