I'd like to replace the rather tatty Tioga threaded 1 1/8" headset on my '91 Karakoram Elite.

Preferably something black and preferably Shimano, but I'm open to offers. Ideally, a M736 would be perfect, but I don't think I can stretch to that.

The bike isn't period-correct, so I'm not too bothered about that, but I'd rather keep the original than just a generic new one. I'm not too bothered if the bearings are damaged/missing, but the races need to be in good condition.

I think the stack height is on the low side, but I can double check that.

I think the stack height on the STX is too high.

That XT one would be great if it was black :(

But I don't think I can bring myself to put a silver one on, as the bike will have hardly any silver on it.

[edit] The stack height on the M737 is too high too. I think the only Shimano ones that will fit are the ones above.
 
I have an excellent condition Dia Compe 1 1/8 threaded headset, black; kinda cool (what? the aheadset guys made threaded as well? It's true!)

I can post pics and a price later tonight. Have to get buys selling hundreds of parts. I wish I was exaggerating :|
 
I've solved this. I found some M736s on ebay for £25, but before that I managed to find a NOS original Tioga Avenger DL (slight upgrade from the original I think) on ebay and the seller accepted $10 (£6.50). It's arrived from The States and I am very happy with it.
