.........the difference between Ti and brushed aluminium, finished to look like Ti? Obviously you can use the old magnet trick to define steel, but what do you do with alu? :?
Its actually a set of Brahma bars on my DynaTech. Should have said before. I thought they were initially alu, but now i've been led to believe that RSP made some Ti ones, and these look like Ti. Shown here http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=175668
Could the fact that the bar is shimmed in the middle be a giveaway that its Ti? I'm just thinking along the lines that it is easy to draw Alu into shapes compared to Ti, and they are from '93 when the use of Ti in the bike industry was still somewhat in its learning stage. Just a thought. I'll have to remove them and see.I'll get some pics up when i've done so.
I've took them off and i'm totally convinced they're Ti. I will post some pics later. The sad thing is, i just cant get on with them, so its off to the 'how much is it worth' thread.

What a carry on see if a magnet sticks to them, if not their Ti
Take a grip off see if the tube is thick, scratch the end of the bars
with a pen knife see if you can mark it, it should go shinny if its
alloy.
Thanks, i've followed all the advice and i believe they are Ti. I've even had the digi micrometer on them to check the thickness. The wall thickness is 1.45mm compared to 2.55mm for some alu bars of the same period. Anyway, some photo's:
