Here's my Sun Worksop restoration... this one's been a real labour of love with lots of time and money spent but hopefully worth it. I found the original bike on Gumtree in a horrendous state...
... and began by stripped of all it's components including the headtube badge. I decided to go for a really vintage look and feel with this one, a comfortable gentleman's sports bike if you will!? The headset and bottom bracket mounting surfaces were lightly faced before the frame was sandblasted at Descaling Services in Levenshulme and handed over to my friend Andy to set about the respray.
The fork and bottom bracket threads were then masked off, before he applied several layers of etch primer. After a light sanding, six coats of the main colour were then sprayed on, and - after two weeks of air hardening - the gold enamel lug lining & cable guide detailing was applied. Finally, six coats of clear lacquer were applied. After two more weeks of air-hardening, the headtube badges were reapplied to the finished frames and the rebuild process began.
I overhauled the wheels (and re-dished and converted the rear to accept a solid axle and single freewheel), and restored the dynamo fitting, headset, seatpost & clamp and BB.
The bike originally had centre-pull brakes which were sadly cracked so I sourced some suitable replacement Weinmanns on CTC. I considered gears for a while but I like the single speed look so went with it. The rest of the parts were sourced on forums such as here and CTC, and a few bits from eBay.
And here she is out on her maiden voyage! Rides like a dream!!!
