1991 GT Karakoram — will this freewheel cassette work?

Cancel as its a screw on type not a cassette - its a very misleading description if you dont know exactly what you need.

This is what you are looking for if its definitely a cassette you need and you dont have a screw-on rear hub wheel

Thanks! Problem is I want to try 1x7 gearing as my front derailleur is kaput, so I will need something wider range (granny gear wanted).

I can send you a matching front mech if you want
I believe I misunderstood your original question. I have the rear mech. It's working. The front mech is not. Or perhaps it is. Previous owner removed (and lost) the screw with a red ring in the below picture (not my picture or mech, Googled something close to what I have) to get the chain out:

Problem is the bike isn't where I am and I'm unable to inspect it. Will be traveling to bike in a few weeks to work on it, so I'm collecting parts. Is that part of the front derailleur threaded, or could I just use a screw and nut that fits to hold it together? Could be interested in your mech! PM :)

Re:

That bit on the front mech will be threaded.
But you could bodge a small nut + bolt on there to hold it together.
Or take LGF up on his offer of the front mech.
Or I probably have an old mech with the right screw to fit there, yours for postage cost.
Or try a local bike shop, they may have a screw that'll fit, you'll probably get it for free.
All of the above will be much cheaper than fitting a new wider range cassette, but you can get those if that's the route you want to go (sram do one, Shimano do up to 34T I think? Also look at Sunrace and Ztto etc...) .

Thanks! It just dawned on me that I have the front mech here in the house. Rest of the bike is elsewhere. I will have a look and see if I can do something with it. I'll get back to you if I need one! What's the condition like?

Good to know, thanks!

Thank you, that's very kind. I'll have a look at the derailleur first and see if it looks usable or if there's other damage to it.

Decisions, decisions! I guess 1x10 would be an unorthodox dream, but then I'll need a new hub/wheel, derailleur, chain etc. Speaking of decisions. This will be a drop bar conversion. So I'll be needing me some bar-end shifters (already have the TRP RRL brake levers).

It seems 7-speed bar end shifters are not available, but that 8 speed ones, like microSHIFT BS-T08 or Shimano 8-speed, should work in indexed mode? Does anybody here have experience with 7-speed derailleurs and bar-end shifters?
