I found a bike a couple of months back, which I reported to the Police. I thought that, once I had claimed it, I would Karma it to someone on these forums (see my original Karma thread HERE).

Since I started the thread, I am sure many of you will be aware in the news of the terrible tragedy that took place at a small coal mine in the Gleision Valley, South Wales. 4 miners were trapped underground when the mine collapsed - all of whom sadly lost their lives.

To cut a long story short, my local pub (The Windsor Arms, Penarth) is holding a fundraising auction on the 29th October to raise money for the families of the coal miners, and I have decided that I would like to donate the bike as an auction lot, to try to do my little bit. The trouble is, the bike needs a few bits and pieces to get it up and running, and this is where I'm hoping to appeal to everybody's charitable side.

Can I please ask that you look through your parts bins, and if you have any of the following bits that you are able to part with for a good cause, please let me know:

  • An 8/9spd chain Sorted - thanks Antstark :)
  • Bearings for a semi-integrated 1.125" aheadset (ball and cage or loose bearings)
  • 2 x pairs V Brake Pads (non-cartridge type) Sorted - thanks Antstark and elPedro666 :)
  • Black Grips Sorted - thanks development_cycle :)
  • Black Flat Pedals Sorted - thanks Antstark :)
  • A set of Gripshift shifters (9 speed) Sorted - thanks Makster :)
  • Brake/Gear Cables and Outers Sorted - thanks elPedro666, SwanHouseNappa, michael franks and foz :)

It could also do with some new forks, but that's a bit too much to ask so the RSTs will make do :)

From memory, I think that's all it needs to get up-and-running.

If you could reply on here (so that others know what has been donated and what hasn't), that would be great. I will then pm you with my work address.

Thanks in advance for helping out. I'll be sure to mention the website at the auction so everyone knows who helped put the bike together :)

  • 2 x pairs V Brake Pads (non-cartridge type) 1 pair sorted - thanks Antstark :)
  • Black Grips
  • Rear Gear Cable and Outer

Won't be home until the weekend but I can get these in the post by Wednesday at worst if that's okay? Not sure about outer cable (2 sections for under BB routing?), definitely got inner though.

Would orange grips suit it?!

I'lll have some gear outer I would have thought.

Also, if orange grips don't suit, I have a home for them...

They're Club Roost, nothing amazing but definitely grip-like. If you PM me your address I'll send you the grips and you can send Barney the gear outer?

One pair of pads and rear gear inner cable coming from me then, sorted :D

Sure I must have some black grips if you're stuck, but looks like DC's on the case

Bearings for a semi-integrated 1.125" aheadset (ball and cage or loose bearings)

Need some of these but struggle to find them - if anyone knows of anywhere I can get quality ones at a decent price I'd be tempted to buy a job-lot (and then donate a set, obviously!) :)

Yep, some grips on way from me. Looks like you are nearly there buddy.

Certainly am :)

Thanks to everyone who has donated some kit so far. Hopefully I'll be able to do a half-decent job of making the bike a bit more presentable and it'll raise a decent amount of money for the miners :)
