Has any one tried either a hellicoil type insert or a frame saver repair for a stripped derailleur hanger.

I have just noticed the hanger on the Dogsbolx is looking rather stripped thread wise. My first thought was to tap it from the wheel size using an M10x1.0 mm tap...sadly I dont have one to hand ..plenty of coarse threads but no 1.0mm!

But if that doesnt sort it out then I will be looking to use either a hellicoil or a frame saver, so which would you use and why?

Money is tight at the mo, but I would like to do the best job I can afford!

there was a mech mounted on it when i got it and it came off easily . no metal on mech threads .

I have used the frame saver bolt from BETD in the past and it does the job . not cheap ( just under £10 I think ) , but it does save your frame .

Derailleur hangars are the same pitch and thread size as wheel axles I think - so if you have an old wheel axle you might be able to chase the threads a bit with that.

I have one i'm not using any more. Fitted to the rear mech hanger of my first Trimble. This had been heli-coiled in the past.
Can drop it at your work one day this week?

here are a few pic's. Try it and if works then buy me a coffee at the next meet
