Anyone else running D521 on an XC bike?

I recently got given a nice set of Mavic D521 rims laced to ATAK cartridge bearing hubs, and think I'm going to put them on the Xizang. I know these were sold as an early downhill-specific rim, but they are lighter than my Araya RM17/XT M735 wheels - anyone else running these as an XC rim?

In my opinion, 521s were one of the best rims that Mavic ever made. It's testament to their quality that they're plenty light enough to use on a XC bike, but strong enough for Peaty and a few others to use on their DH rigs back in the day.

Use them :)

Yeah I used to swear by these for DH, laced to red bulbs was probably my favourite wheelset ever.

I had 521 ceramics on M950 XTR hubs on my dekerf teamSL (i miss that bike) purely as i couldnt get 217's in ceramic. A fraction heavier but a pretty hardy wheelset.

Exactly the same wheelset as I used to use! 521s, red Bulbs, straight gauge DTs, Maxxis High Rollers and Hope DH4s ;)

Aaaaahh, memories! 521s rock :)

yep, I'm using D521's with LX hubs on my Dyna-tech xc bike (see sig), they seem to be wide, strong, and not overly heavy, they were intended as a short term stop-gap measure until I got some lightweight xc wheels but tbh I'm going to keep using them. They even have slicks fitted half the time for road work :D

Ran/run 521's and prior to those the 121 on a few bikes, and agree with the above. Fantastic rims for durability, and given the longevity, they were great value.

Yes, used them for a while for XC laced to XT hubs. Very strong and hard-wearing, but on the heavy side.
