Specialized Stumpjumper 1982

Here is my Specialized Stumpjumper (1982) - All Original Except the Tyres (AOET)!

I'm sure you all know the story - this is one of the first 500 ‘production’ mountain bikes ever made, etc. The serial number on this frame is T2C00428.

I wish I could tell you that there's an amazing build story to this bike, and that I scoured the planet looking for original parts - but that would be a lie. I bought it off a fella in California, and shipped it back to the UK. It's as he bought it from the shop, and as I bought it from him.

I like to think of this early mountain bikes riding the earliest CA trails - and the parts on it have not changed for over 35 years. I particularly like the original California Bicycle License sticker. As you can see from the pics - it's still in lovely condition.

Thanks. I ride it from time to time. It's good for bridleways and canal towpaths - not so great for singletrack or anything that involves going round corners! The fork rake means the turning is not so sharp. It's comfortable and the brakes are surprisingly good for their age.

That's an amazing collection :shock: . Especially jealous of the 88 Stumpjumper (I had one myself) and the Rock Combo (which I always wanted).

Thanks, yeah the '88 is pretty original just needs going through. The Rock Combo's took a LONG time to find. I have both colours the Ivory/Turquoise is all original but the White/Gold i bought as just a frame from the USA and brought over with Bike Flights. Just had it powder coated and fresh stickers from Gil @ Retrodecals, its now in the restore queue...
