This is my diamondback ascent from 1994.

Today it looks like this

The bike was in good running order when i got it, the paint had a few chips here and there but on the whole i couldn't complain. The changes have all been cosmetic and done over the last month.

The rims had a few spokes missing front and back and a a slight buckle on the front so i swapped them for some double wall aero rims i had in the shed from a previous bike.

The Weirwolf tyresnthat came with the bike were past their best so it's now got Continentals on. A 2.2 Rubber Queen up front and a 2.3 Baron on the back.

Shimano SPD's have replaced the resin pedals and the 560mm bars have been replaced with a 500mm bar with bar ends.

Only thing left to do is to exchange the mismatched shifters (sram x7 on the front derailleur and shimano sis on the rear derailleur ) for some shimano rapid fire shifters i found in the shed and then it's done.

I may look at sorting the paint out sometime in the future but for now, I'm gonna carry on enjoying my bike.

Pretty sure it's a 90.

91 would have a different paint job, and 89 straight forks.

Sweet. Tbh, i had thought the smokey paint job a bit odd for1994 . I remember that it was all the rage in the late 80's. My first mountain bike was a Townsend Smokey Bear and that was 1990.

Is there anyway i can determine the exact year?

Cool. Thanks for the info guys. Probably enjoy it that little bit more now!!!

It's funny. I've owned a couple of BSO's in the past and while they've been ridden to destruction and oblivion my diamondback is still going strong.

I agree with 1990, my catalogue shows a black Ascent but in small print at the bottom of the page states 'only availabe in Blue Fade Smoke in the UK'
