STS happened to me in late summer 2014. I had wanted one since a boy, so was delighted to be offered a 1998 1000 DS while touting for an LTS. Snapped it up without much thought.

Keen to get riding, STS v1.0 was a black v's red build, using bits I had ready and taken from another bike. 100mm Z3.5s up front along with couple of other red bits as a nod to the rear coil, and the whole thing held together by M952. However, I always knew this wasn't how I wanted it built up; STS v2.0 would be a stealthy modern build, but at least for now it was rolling.

STS v1.0 playing in the snow Jan'15.

The frame has since been stripped, and v2.0 is in the making. M970 drivechain and Hope discs sourced, and wheelset and forks shouldn't be too far behind.

Re: GT STS 1000 DS

I saw your build the other week. Love the idea of a Brain!

Going to get this one up and running in the short term on M952 I have lying around, but long term I'm going for a more modern spec.

nice cranks!

They 'make' the bike, don't you feel?! Along with the V's!

I'm not sure 952 is right for an STS tho...I just don't think it goes. I like the look of M970, and got my eye on your rear mech. Might come swooping your way on pay day if it's still around.

The frame came with a set of Pace RC40, so once they are fully serviced by justbackdated, I will start to move it into a more modern build I think. Set of Hope discs and some nice Mavic wheels to finish it off.

Re:

well i'm toying with the idea of 2 x 10 for the Tranny, so there may be lots of 970 stuff available! :D

there's also a set of 970 vees in the for sale section......

Lovely. They've aged really well.

I reckon the 952 looks great...I love those cranks. Should have never sold my mint pair, especially for what they went for. It was at the tine when 952 was just old....not old and cool, just old.

A set of orange Z1's would look ace on that.

Re: 1998 GT STS 1000 DS - seatpost clamp size help!

Can anyone confirm what size seatpost clamp these frames take? I'm struggling to find the correct size. Just received a 36.4mm, but it is quite loose, and doesn't properly clamp the post until the two bolt bosses are touching. :?
