Pace fork crown question

Hi all

I've removed some Pace RC36 Evo 2's from my frame to swap out with a pair of RC31's but the crown race doesn't fit as I suspect that there is a shim inside the crown race.

The RC31's have a shim protruding from the crown over the steerer tube, can anyone confirm that this is normal for Pace forks?

I've included pictures of the fork crown of each, RC36 first, RC31 second.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Not sure about the 31's but the 36's should have an alloy shim for the bottom race as the steerer is the same diameter all the way down. I'd have thought the 31's should be the same. Never seen a shim like the one in the photo.

It should look like this:

Thanks for the reply.

I suspect that there is a shim just like the eBay one stuck in the crown race that's been removed and that if I can separate them the race will slide over the RC31's odd looking shim.

Yes, as above, I'm assuming that the steerer is 1"1/8th, all the Pace forks I've had have all had a shim of some kind as already said the steerer is basically just a straight tube all the way down.

Incidentally (not meaning to hijack the thread here) I have some RC30's with a 1" crown and 1" steerer... do these also require a shim? as it looks like they might do judging by a slight recess in the top of the crown where the steerer goes in...

RC31s are later generation with non-removeable steerer and don't need the shim. At least the ones I have don't.

Thanks for comments.

The RC31's are 1 1/8" steerer.

I managed to get the shim out of the crown race, stuck it in the freezer for a couple of hours and they soon came apart.

The crown race is now fitted onto the RC31's with no shim, so I can only imagine that they are designed that way with no shim required.

The eBay seller that cherrybomb added a link to also sells similar shims for 1" steerers suggesting that they also need one.

That's me.
Some of them do need the shim but I'm not sure it's all of them.

Thanks, looking at the top of the RC30 crown there is a bit of a recess, probably for a crown race to sit in, I just never remember using one before , though it has been a few years since my last set of RC30's!
