December 2022 will be the 40th anniversary of Cleland Cycles and when Geoff Apps started running rides from Wendover in Buckinghamshire. Now run annually each December, this ride is the oldest and longest running MTB event in Britain.

You don't need a Cleland style bicycle to join in this ride, any bike will do, retro or modern.
Originally, back in 1982 the ride consisted of Rough Stuff bikes and Clelands. From 1984, MTB owners started to bring there US designed bikes along to what then the only mountain bike ride in Britain. Though the terrain and conditions can be demanding, we ride is to the pace of the slowest rider. In practice this means that we have frequent stops for everyone to catch up. The ride follows a circular route around Wendover and usually continues after dark. Riders who want to finish earlier can drop back down To Wendover at any time.

To mark the 40th Anniversary we will be organising additional events and rides in 2023. Plans include a camping riding weekend in the Chilterns and a two day, weekend ride along the Ridgeway long distance path. see the Cleland Cycles 'rides and events' page for further information.
