As a bit of an update I have just fitted a pair of 27” x 1 1/8” Continental SuperSport Plus City Road tyres to the Hobbs which is running on unhooked Weinmann rims. These tyres look similar to the normal Conti SuperSport but contain a puncture resistant belt. Despite the review horror stories these were quite easy to fit and give me a little more clearance at the chainstays and the front fork crown so it’s all looking good. I did notice that they are marked: ‘To be mounted only on hooked rims’ but checking other Conti shod machines in the garage shows similar warnings so I am not anticipating this causing problems. I’m anticipating plenty of other problems of course.
