If you do this sort of thing regularly a 1" 24tpi die costs less than £20.
Threaded 1 1/8th TPI differences.

I always borrow BB "cleaners" for my bikes from my LBS.

Imperial cycle threads are of a special form. Governed by BS811:1950 They are specified as BSCy or BSC on the dies.
The form and thread calculations are similar to Whitworth, but on a different basis. Standard unified imperial threads use a different form standard which can trace back to FED standard H28

Great things, not got myself a set as I use old steel hearses if I can find them
Same for bottom brackets, good old Shimano steel cups, I prefer the cartridge BB stel cups to the older cuo/cone as the tools is easier to use.

As mentioned that's a 1-24 Unified thread. A cycle thread is a different form. They are not intermixable.
