which gen mavic ? period frame ? steel or other material ? French or other ?

1985/6 Super Record equivalent: doesn't have to be period correct frame, French/Belgian/British, but not Italian.

I consider myself very lucky to be able to own some of my dream bikes, and my vitus 979 would be one of the last to go if I ever have to thin out my collection. They just have a certain 'zing' which the others don't and feel fast. Probably one to avoid above 22" frame as they are flexy, but I think they are brilliant and a bargain these days compare to what they cost new..

Glad to hear you like it so much. If I get the chance to ride one it might change my view, but for the moment, it's not on my purchase list

Here's mine.....Mavic SSC (apart from brakes) on a Vitus 979 (Peugeot).......

Re: Reynolds 753 frame

Thanks for all the suggestions. So, after much thought I've decided to move forwards on this English-built Reynolds 753 frame and forks which conveniently came with a Mavic 600RD SSC BB and Mavic 312 headset. It's original paint scheme: Holdsworth Orange with white detailing to pick out the lugs and bottle bosses. Was considering going down a Chorus/C Record route, but didn't want to swap out the BB and headset as they function so well (Mavic bearings must be some of the best!). The BB is English 68mm shell and the spindle is 116mm, so the Mavic cranks I'll fit will have the correct chainline, whereas fitting Chorus cranks would really have required a swap to a 111mm spindle.
