Just wondering what people think about the idea of running a wider flat bar on a retro MTB? I'm completing my first retro build and haven't ridden it yet, but not sure how I'm going to get on with the 585mm bars. All my other bikes are 700 - 720mm. Martin from Second Spin Cycles runs 635 -...

No one mentions head tube angle: those are in the 66/69 degree now. A 135mm stem will stabilize and slow down a very nervous 71 degree head angle. Then you have a 58cm bars to go along. It´s close to cyclo cross/ road geometry. A 66 degree front will work only w/ a much shorter stem and wide bars. And you are dealing w/ a longer front center, result from the shallow head tube.
It´s the whole package.
