Spooky Metalhead nos

Super nice! Worth the wait.

How does it compare to similar bikes ridewise, the build is very similar to your Trailstar.

Cheers! I’m over the moon with the way it turned out :)

It’s a bit shorter than the Trailstar and bb is higher so is a lot more compact in the cockpit. I could do with more layback on the seatpost. But the ride is very solid, and less forgiving than the steel frame for sure. The rigid forks and smaller tyres give a much more firmer ride.
Not ridden it much at all yet if i’m honest as i don’t want to get it dirty! :D
Feels just like a bmx though. Very balanced, and is a joy to cruise about on. Looking forward to getting out on it more when the suns shining

Re:

I’m so scared of snapping mine, I’ve bought aTrailstar frame and transferred all the parts to that for proper riding, and I’m relegating the Metalhead to casual use with a set of Identiti Rebates too. I cracked a Metalhead in 2001, so although they’re tough, they do break! Even more likely when it’s 20 years old.

Re: Lovely build

I take my hat off to you. That is very nice. I've had a few Azonic parts in the past and never had an issue with any pf them. Under rated stuff IMHO.

You've inspired me to post my new build which I will do tomorrow.

Totally relate to what you're saying there, sounds like a mix of all the bikes I've ridden that are too tough and too small for me! Friends 24 Le Toys, Dr Jekyll (except mine was XL) and other bikes DMR are the only ones that have felt natural and tame! I've a 24Seven that I already know is very short. 24 inch wheels can be fun though I've learnt, so 2 little wheel builds coming again. Layback Seatpost is a good idea, thinking the same on my DMR, got a temporary post that's not inline and seems better. Ace.

It's been a while since I've updated on here since completing, so thought best add some fresher pics...

Have since added a nos Marzocchi Z3 QR20, and more recently a pair of nos Hope 185/165 rotors and Azonic Head Lock.

I think it's all done now :)

Awesome build, very nice! Stealth looking

Mines all NOS and I barely ride it so no it's never been offroad or seen any dirt, and probably never will now.. Built it more for show than anything. Rides lovely though.

Me neither, but I used to! Here's one from the archives of when I did ride, Slough BMX track (my original Metalhead I cracked in 2000)...

There's something about seeing a Metalhead being used how it should bitd. Love the look of those braced Azonic bars too. Very cool!

I wish I had more photos of it. It was originally smurf blue and the powdercoat started flaking, so I had it sandblasted like you see it in that photo and discovered the crack by the headtube gusset. It brings a tear to my eye.
