Specializeds M2XX S-WORKS - value?

Unfortunately, I'm looking to sell or get an idea of a price for my late friend's Specialized M2XX S-WORKS mountain bike.

I'm looking to sell on behalf of his widow, but I know that this is a vintage bike 1998 and I know that he waited a long time to get his hands on it but unsure how much he paid for it back in the day. Anyways, after he passed I took the bike with the intention to sell it for her when the weather improved - so here it is in all its glory.

Its quite upsetting as I'm torn in selling it or actually giving her the money to keep it for myself as a reminder of my mate but I really just don't know what is a reasonable price for it as I have seen you can get anywhere from £150-500 but I just don't know where best to price it.

Sorry about your mate firstly

The frame is the only original bit that seems left. It’s the best colour and a good frame. The frame is also the only decent part on that build unfortunately so you’d be the lower end of your pricing as the rest of the parts are relatively cheap.

Has the frame been repainted in the past?
The frame is from 1998 but the S-Works decal on the headtube is from around 2004....strange

TBH, as this was my friends bike I'm not 100% sure on the history of the bike - all I know is that he waited a while for it and it was a gift from one of his customers but apparently it was a "top-end" bike back in its day....

Yeh it was defo a top end bike BITD, its an S-Works, im guessing it was repainted as the decals are a mix of modern and the originals.
