slightly used PACE RC35 update - east coast frankenbike

OUCH! :(

what was your official flight distance from the bike or did you just pivot straight over the front? :D

Is the frame ok? I would have thought an impact that hard would damage the frame aswell. Good lad for taking an oldie to show these young whipper snappers that not so long ago we ruled the roost.

cheers chaps.

Three working fingers on my right hand, so not a lot of abilty to remove bits and measure the frame for damage. Consequently, its sitting in the shed awaiting its fate.

Flight distance was short - more a high roatational speed spin around the front axle with brief upsidedown period. I threw myself under the bike to save it!!!

Having ridden the oldest of around 300 bikes, I also returned with the most damaged. I can't claim to expanding the retro-bike tribe any I 'm afraid And
I seem to have removed at least one retro fork from the global population...

Pisser really since I'd just put new elastomers in it!

OK, Colville Connection, 42km ride. 7km in first downhill, monster pothole hidden in grass. Result - slight alignment problem..
First, with the PACE RC35 you can't downhilling  and secondly your frame is not suitable for suspension forks. Be glad you're still ok. ;)

Clearly the fault is 100% with the bike and not Aardvarkash's riding ability! :D

I always have stomach pain when I take my rc35 over a stone. This fork is very fragile (even not for mini downhill) but incredibly nice! :D

clarification reqd - a 42 km ride in NZ by necessity will include gradients that are "downhill" - its the natural outcome of the ugly uphill bits. I figured its the same in most locations, but if not I stand corrected.

I freely admit the crash was the result of copounding factors - pilot error included! I suspect that any fork would have given up in much the same way - this was a 20km/hr into a 400mm deep 1.2m wide hole with pretty much square edges. When a front wheel stops dead and combined 105kg of bike and rider follow on, destruction is assured!

(As an aside, I ended up guarding the hole against others following. While there I was talking with a guy riding a near new GT (I think) freeride unit. He'd hit the hole to, but at higher speed and had cleared the front wheel but sunk the rear in. Result was a damaged rim and blown tube and thats with around 4 or 5 inches of suspension travel front and rear...)

I'm actually surprised at the state of my front wheel - still true. Yay Mavic!

Frame not made for suspension fork? Yeah well, tell that to Cannondale. Even at the time they were available with a suspension fork from new. There is a difference between purist and puritan...

Anyway, if the frame turns out to be ok still, it is going to get a Pro-Flex Vector 1 on it. Take that you purists!!!!

PS - serious about getting a new brake bridge for this fork. I can machine new stanchions, but the bridge would be a bugger to machine (unless anyone turns up with dimensions...)

Dame canannondales are good how that frame never got damaged awesome bike, also never thought id see these forks getting damaged like that either ;) glade your ok mate bet your hart was racing
