Looking at old adverts in period magazines Sante was priced the same as Ultegra.

Sante was White Ultegra. Check the Freewheel catalogue, as it was full of the stuff.

sante was actually positioned between dura ace and ultegra. dunno if it was functionally anything more than ultegra, but the finish garnered a premium over ultegra at the very least.

not my cup of tea either...at the time i chose the 6400 (tri-color) ultegra.
