Shimano/ Campag compatibility…

Does anyone have any experience of running XT 732 Thumbies and 8spd block with a Campag Record OR or Icarus rear mech?

I’m guessing the block will be ok but the indexing clicks on the shifter will be out and I’d have to run the shifter in friction?

I would worry if it pulls enough cable at all. Campag needs a lot more cable pull.

The rule is: don't mix one make of shifter with another make of mech. But sometimes you need to bend the rules, especially when you want really low gears on a drop-handlebar touring bike.

Basically you could run an 8 speed campa block with 10 speed spacers using a campa rear mech and XT shifters as, as Hamster says, the campa mech needs more cable to pull the same distance

Those Campag off road mechs are lovely and rare! Hope you manage to get it working. One thing I do know is that Campag 8 speed and Shimano 7 speed have the same 5mm spacing. With a Shimano 7 speed cassette and a Campag shifter you'll have working indexing.
