The six speed XT thumbies are M730, so they are probably your best option.
There's a set on Ebay, but a bit pricey:

I have no idea whether friction or index shift is better. Perhaps it doesn't matter to me because I dnot have much experience of using either type. Maybe as a cheap option to get the bike up and running they might work out OK. Any thoughts?
