Quick question - 8 speed chain with 10 speed mech?

Will an 8-speed chain fit through the cage of a 10 speed rear mech? The chain is c.1.3mm wider than a 10-speed chain, which is my concern.

I have Googled this, but all the answers on other sites are clever dicks asking 'why' rather than answering the physical question of enough space.

Thanks!

...over the years I have used many different width jockey wheels in different cages - shimano, hope, white industries etc - you can shim out the cages since the bearing caps are static and the bolts tighten down on them..BUT...that's not the issue really. The pull ratio of 10 speed mechs is different to 6, 7, 8 and 9 speed mechs.

See:

So you can get your 8 speed chain running sweetly through a 10 speed mech but you will not get it shifting well.
