Hi,

Well the Grubb has been stripped down, and component renovation is ongoing - much cleaning and polishing. The big question is the frame, the easy (if not cheap) option is to get out the cash and get it resprayed, new decals etc, but that I feel, is the fall back option. The intention is to make the bike fully useable, an maintain the current position, not make a "perfect" restoration to hang on the wall.

What I'd like to do is keep the original paint, but where the usual chips & drop-out wear have revealed bare metal & surface rust, treat it (to prevent further rusting), and then apply a clear-coat to seal the frame.

Is this possible/sensible/desirable?

What is the best way of removing and treating the loose paint/rust prior to applying a clearcoat?

Pic's of the drop-outs, and one of the worst "chips" on the forks thus:
