Was out this morning on the Basso when I came across a small group out for a pootle. As I politely passed them I did a double take and slowed down from my immense speed for a chat. Anyway 1897 Rover with 36 inch front wheel solid tyres 1inch width chain fixed wheel with a slipper brake on the front with coaster pegs on the forks. Apparently this was a development of a penny farthing frame style as you can see when you look at the Front wheel and down tube. The owner and rider, Bob, was 72 years young.
Stopped for a chat and to shelter from a shower. Third pic is with the Basso for scale. It was a beast!
Another chap was on a tricycle of similar age and a third on a 1927 Saxon.
Suitably humbled.
