New tyres clearance and performance in old frames..

enigma

Retro Guru
Hi All,
Ive been looking at tyres for my 92 Clockwork orange, I was pretty settled I would fork out for some Terra one, as they look good, but they measure up a very tight fit in the chainstays.
It came with tired Tioga psychos with more cracking than my fat ass is taking a chance on.. they are 1.95 width.
I have some blackwall panaracer 1.95 that look ok, but proper off road tyres not cruiser silliness options seems to be repro smoke / dart and not much else, how long do these last as from what I remember they could become an expensive habit on a regularly used bike, I think these wore quite fast, which is why I did use Psychos I think... ( It all seems so long ago..!)
It will be used as a cross country bike, very little road work, no bravery jumping etc!
If anyones got favourites fitting the same bill, especially if there is some hidden amberwall lightbulb moment..! can we share some pics and recommendations?
many thanks Ben

modern tyres are great but old frames and big new tyres can be tricky.

my favourites were Geax (Vittoria) Mezcal, Schwalbe Smart Sam and Rapid Rob

now its getting 26 size that is more difficult

Like LGF is have similar issues - 2.1s just fit in my P7 and Edge with comfortable clearances. I use Schwalbe Billy Bonkers and Conti Race King. 1.9 are not so easy to find, but Conti Traffic II looks like it has potential.
