Wouldn't fancy trying to work out those spoke lengths in a snowflake
 
I now tried to use a V-brake lever. Some STX I had laying around. Man! What a difference. I'd say those brakes now work like expected.

One more pic of the current configuration.


One little problem is obvious on that pic: The angle of the brake cable is quite severe. When I tried to install the brake ob my pinnacle frame it was too steep for the brake to operate correctly. I could fit those rollers from to the back of the brake arm. But that doesn't look too good imho...

@Ericfive: That is a lovely set you have there. Most people seem to us those Scott Matthauser brake pads. Did you ever try different pads?
And: What kind of brake lever are you using?

They do feel mushy with canti brake levers, I run mine with Avid ultimates which have the dial to alter the cable throw and get a good feel, and still look retro with the long levers.
