Ive got a 93 Pine Mountain frameset. Frame is battle-scarred but sound. One small dink on the top tube. Canti stud on fork has now been repaired so paint required where brazed. Marin 19” (c-c) 20.25” c-t. Light frame. Various purple parts and components available too (mostly no better than fair condition). 1CE48045-A3A8-435F-BD8A-647FD697D2B2.jpeg

I just got a 1994 Marin Eldridge Grade 19” - all original except tires (replaced), seat (missing) and the red bar ends are missing. The rear shifter cover is missing. Otherwise in near stock condition … I think.

Do you know if it is meant to be a 3x7 or 3x8? Mine has 8 gears on the cassette but the shifter only shifts 7 positions (6 clicks). At first it didn’t shift at all but I cleaned it as outlined by RJ the Bike Guy’s YouTube video (WD-40 to clean the gunk in the shifter springs and pawls then Tri-flo, still some grease in there too). So now it shifts but only 7 gears. I see 7 detents (places for the pawls to stop in the … let’s call it a “shift plate” I guess?). See the photos attached.

Shifter (and integrated brake lever) is model ST-m563. Google results tend toward 7 speed for that model, but nothing definite

Is the cassette originally a 7 or 8 speed?

Also, I’d sell this one, it’s a 19” (from center of bottom bracket to top of seat tube). I’m in the SF Bay Area.

Otherwise I’m giving up on the original shifter and converting it to 1x11:
Sensah CRX shifter
Sensah SRX derailleur,
Cheap 38t crankset,
Sunrace 11 speed 11-46t cassette,
Tektro canti pull brake levers … or grind the shifter bit off the original rear brake and confer the front brake into a bell holder.
Overall conversion cost is $100 for the crankset, shifter, derailleur and a 11 speed chain. Cassette and brake levers from my parts bin.
